skin:tattoo

SKIN: TATTOO

Initial attraction

I found the tattoo to be fun and interesting since touch is needed for it to be activated. It brings a sort of connection and communication between people not only visually but physically, in this case between lovers, that tattoos before did not have. I liked how it would be a source of expression and self depiction through body art with touch added to the visual aspect.

Product Pros & Cons

This design accommodates Ockham’s razor because its this design allows for personal expression and individuality using the same visual aspects of a tattoo adding the simple act of tough making it more enjoyable on a physical level. This makes the product useful because many people can enjoy it easily.

Aesthetics are used because they accommodate the user and allow them to identify with the product or device in a positive way making the product more powerful. With a greater connection a more positive connotation for the product can be reached. In this case the touch activated tattoo creates an even closer connection with the user because it seems to grow and form underneath the skin being more a bodily reaction then a mere tattoo. Positive relationships between the user and the person touching them can be achieved through this new form of communication, and brings individualism to a new personal and interactive level creating a more desirable aesthetic quality. Therefore, the Aesthetic- usability effect works in favor for this design.

At the moment the product has not yet been perfected and is hoped to be available in 2020. With the information available, people with poor to no vision can still interact with the product but would not be able to enjoy the visual images created by the tattoo thus, hindering its perceptibility. To enjoy the tattoo one must merely touch the skin of the one with it and an array of images will occur promptly creating no complexities to the use or experience thus achieving a great level of simplicity. For people with skin complications or allergies to the product, having the tattoo would be impossible. Also nerve damage would affect the product greatly since one that cannot feel touch would not be able to produce an image of the tattoo. These aspects would affect the operability of the product greatly. Finally forgiveness cannot be achieved since its defects, errors, and safety precautions have not been accessed or created yet.

It is not known as of yet whether individuals will prefer this style of tattoos over the previous style even though its performance reaches a level of individuality, personal expression, art, and communication that the regular tattoos don’t. The preference cannot be determined until the product is finished because preference information can only be contained under context therefore making predictions would only prove to be unreliable.
